Help needed...
Hi all, I am attempting to set up a database for catch and release - but still based on weight for final result..bear with me...
Basically I need accurate records of all species on the WFSA min size list (starting at the min size of course). I need ;
1.Length from snout to fork in tail and girth at fattest point, plus accurate weight. No guesses or estimates please.
2.Rays, length wingtip to wingtip (all sizes as no min), length snout to tail and accurate weight.
3.Flatties, length from snout to fork in tail and width at widest point plus accurate weight.
4. Mini species as number 1.
If you can help I would be grateful. Please email (photo's too if you like) to
ga-sac@talktalk.net
At some point this will enable catch and release but the information provided will allow a size list length & girth to weight, therefore enabelling competition to be awared placings on over all weight not points, but without unecessary death and hauling buckets of fish and water to the weigh in. Touch wood it will prove good for conservation and us shore anglers...

I think there could be a lot of data here, what is the final aim of the database?

re database
Hi Tozer, cheers for your reply. I agree that there will be loads of date - maybe too much after my session last night calculating doggies alone...
Basically I am trying to develop a catch and release system where the final placings are awarded by weight not points and still using the WFSA min size limits. So, if I knew a doggie of say 63cm with a girth of 14cm weighed 2Lb I could award that weight without the need for the fish to be present.
Now that I have attaempted to do doggies alone, I think a new strategy is needed - as you say the data would be huge.
So, my idea now is to use WFSA min sizes as the base line.
Use the SAMF points system but starting at WFSA's 45cm for dogs etc rules instead of the SAMF everything over 18cm counts rule.
Or have members mark each others cards with weight & Girth of each fish caught on or above WFSA sizes and use the L x g squared divided by 800 system to give the weight.
Please forget my request for info in my first post eveyone, I have not thought it out properly - thanks anyway.

I know they have them for the major Shark Species so it should be possible to some extent, you might find a diference between males and females with Dogfish, but it should work.
